A definitive solution for heartburn that does not improve with medication

If heartburn controls your life despite medication, laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery solves the cause of the problem, not just the symptom.

Frequently asked questions

When is reflux surgery recommended?

When symptoms persist despite medication, when you do not want to depend on it for life, or when there is a large hiatal hernia or complications such as esophagitis. The decision is made after a complete evaluation with studies.

What studies do I need beforehand?

Generally an endoscopy and, depending on the case, studies such as pH monitoring, esophageal manometry, or an upper GI series. In consultation we review which studies you already have and which are missing.

Will I be able to eat normally after surgery?

During the first weeks you follow a soft transition diet and then gradually return to normal eating. The vast majority of patients eat everything in the medium term.

Is this surgery different from other hernia repairs?

Yes. Although a hiatal hernia is also a hernia, it is operated at the diaphragm between the chest and abdomen and requires a specific anti-reflux technique. That is why it is evaluated and planned differently from abdominal wall hernias.
