Frequently asked questions
Does my umbilical hernia need mesh?
It depends on the size of the defect. Small hernias may only need sutures; for larger defects, mesh significantly reduces recurrence. We define this at your evaluation.
Can I have surgery if I plan to become pregnant?
It can be repaired before or after pregnancy depending on your case. If you plan to become pregnant soon, we evaluate together to choose the best timing and technique.
How does the navel look after surgery?
We aim to preserve the natural shape of the navel with the most discreet scar possible. In most cases the cosmetic result is very good.
When can I exercise again?
Light activities within a few days; intense effort and core exercises, generally between 3 and 4 weeks depending on the type of repair.
